I’m a content creator. But, more importantly, I’m a Black woman who is deciding to aggressively push out content that not only amplifies the voices of my peers, but also calls out the societal norms that have, for centuries, been the cause of turmoil and anguish to so many citizens of this country.

If I can be honest, however, I wasn’t always this clear on how to use my voice and my content to bring about change. I quite vividly remember being scared to promote Black voices and Black ideals in my business and my content. I would always make sure that there were white faces included in business marketing photographs and on my social media pages, so that it was seen as “acceptable” by the masses and not “too Black” (which is often unjustly associated with harsh, combative and unpopular). I’m happy I realized that this approach was not the way.

Last Fall, I decided that my business and my content needed to serve a much higher purpose. I did a major pivot and turned the business into a content creator studio for women of color. This meant that every piece of content that I pushed out moving forward went from being for all people, to very distinctly being just for Black and brown women; women that looked like me. The need to serve a community that wasn’t being heard, seen or valued, was more important to me than being accepted by the masses….
